THE QEMISTS
SAT 21st FEB / METROPOLIS / THE EMPIRE / MIDDLESBROUGH
Doors 10.30pm / 18+ / £6
Label mates of The Cinematic Orchestra, Coldcut and Mr Scruff on the legendary Ninja Tune imprint, Brighton's The Qemists literally exploded into our nation’s radio waves last year with their MASSIVE tune 'Lost Weekend' - which featured none other than former Faith No More and Mr Bungle man Mike Patton on guest vocals. Phwoar. Their latest single "Dem Na Like Me" features eski kingpin Wiley on vocals - how good would it be if either Wiley or Mike Patton came with 'em to Boro!? Not gonna happen though is it.
Lazy comparisons to fellow drum 'n' bass/rock crossover rabble Pendulum are perhaps inevitable, but The Qemists are far from bandwagon jumpers - they've been combining rock and dnb since 1997 and in that time, they've received a fair few scrap books full of critical acclaim from Radio 1's Zane Lowe, 1Xtra's Crissy Criss, The Independent and DJ Mag to name but a few.
QEMISTS UPDATES:
* Metro - album of the week this week
* iDJ - 10/10 review and a 2-page feature
* Word - track on covermount CD, and review
* Also great reviews in Rocksound, DJ Mag, Sunday Times, The List, The Telegraph, 50/50 and National Student Magazine.
* Radio 1 plays with Annie Nightingale and Colin Murray, Kiss 100, XFM and more.
* New video for "On The Run" - watch here - www.youtube.com/watch?v=h2HatCliRXo
Press Quotes:
"This is the future of music. What the Prodigy hinted at" - Zane Lowe
"An album so sonically involved and developed you'll find it impossible not to find new sounds on every listen. In a league of their own." 10/10
- iDJ ALBUM OF ISSUE
"The biggest, chunkiest piece of drum 'n' bass yet, distinguished, as usual, by their awesome drumwork and the sheer scale and reach of everything they do." - The Independent
"A truly inspirational debut album." - Kerrang
"A real kick up the backside for 2009." - Clash
"Musical mayhem, from the interface between metal, techno and drum'n'bass" - Sunday Times
"Could give the rejuvenated Prodigy a run for their money too." - Rock Sound
"Destined to cause widespread damage across the board." - Knowledge
"Loud, Rude and played with total abandon. The Qemists have come up with a winning formula." - Metro, One To Watch
